Abstract
Abstract The photorearrangement of 1-nitro-2-naphthaldehyde to the nitroso acid has been studied by means of time-resolved picosecond and nanosecond spectroscopy. Based on the experimental data we propose that the photoreaction proceeds via both the 1 n π * excited singlet state and the low lying 3 ππ * triplet state, 1-Nitro-2-naphthaldehyde is the critical component used to generate a new memory material, which has been successfully utilized by us in two-photon three-dimensional optical storage devices.
