Abstract
Abstract Three commercially available bis(hindered piperidines)—Tinuvin 144 (Bis (1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidinyl)-2-n-butyl-2-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxy-benzyl)malonate); Tinuvin 292 (Bis(1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidinyl)sebacate) and Tinuvin 770 (Bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinyl)sebacate)—have been found to be effective deactivators of singlet oxygen generated in the gas phase by microwaves and in solution by a dye photosensitised reaction. These three stabilisers effectively protec cis-1,4-polybutadiene against singlet oxygen oxidation.
