Abstract
Ethyl acrylate (EA) and 2-chloroethyl acrylate (CEA) have been polymerized at 50°C in benzene using azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The rate of polymerization (Rp: mol/l. sec) for both monomers has been expressed as follows.Rp= k[AIBN] 1/2[M]3/2k=7.54 x 10-4 (EA), k=1.49 x 10-3 (CEA), where [AIBN] and [M] are the concentrations of initiator and monomer, respectively. The kinetic constant k1/kp2 for EA has been determined at 50, 60 and 70°C. The activation energys (Ep-Et/2) for EA and CEA were caluculated as 2.8 and 2.6 kcal/mol, respectively.
