Abstract
Abstract Some physical properties of poly 5-bromocytidylic acid (BrC) and poly 5-iodocytidylic acid (IC) are described. Both polymers form a 1:1 complex with poly (I) with increased stability compared with poly (C) · poly (I). Poly (BrC) gives an acidic form with an organised multistranded helical structure similar to that of half-protonated poly (C), but with lower stability, as shown by its Tm and pH of formation. Poly (IC) also forms a similar organised structure at acidic pH, but in this case dissociation occurs in two steps, the second corresponding to complete de-protonation.
