Abstract
Objective To study the effect of different dosages potassium iodide and potassium iodate on the antioxidative capability of rat blood plasma. Methods The rats were divided into 8 groups.4 groups of them given by different dosages of potassium iodide, and another 4 groups were given by different dosages of potassium iodate. The groups were normal dosage(KI and KIO3),10 fold high dosage(10KI and 10KIO3),50 fold high dosage(50KI and 50KIO3) and 100 fold high dosage(100KI and 100KIO3).12 months later, the rats were sacrificed and superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity, glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) activity and malondialdehyde(MDA) content were measured. Results After treatment for 12 months, the statistic differences among different dosage groups with the same drug were compared by SPSS13.0.The SOD activity of 50KI group was markedly lower than that in KI group.Furthermore, the GSH-Px activity of 100KI group was higher than that in KI group. The MDA content of 50KI and 100KI groups were both lower than that in KI group after administration for 12 months. After comparison between two compared groups of the same dosage with different drug, the SOD and GSH-Px activity of 100KIO3 were both markedly lower than that in 100KI group. No difference was found between other compared groups. Conclusion Both of high dosage potassium iodide and potassium iodate influence the antioxidative capability of rat blood plasma.Compare to potassium iodide, the potassium iodate is more likely to cause the disbalance of the antioxidative system in blood plasma.
