Abstract
The present study constitutes a preliminary evaluation of the use of 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR) as a precolumn chelating agent for liquid chromatographic multielement determinations. A conventional reversed-phase liquid chromatographic system has been used. Fixed-wavelength UV absorption and oxidative thin-layer amperometry have been employed for detection of PAR chelates. Areas examined include response linearity and detection limits. Liquid chromatographic separation of PAR chelates as an approach to multielement analysis of natural water samples has been evaluated. Preliminary investigation has shown that the determination of metal ions such as Cu/sup 2 +/, Co/sup 2 +/, Ni/sup 2 +/, and Fe/sup 2 +/ as PAR chelates at the parts-per-billion level is feasible. 20 references, 2 figures, 2 tables.
