Abstract
1-Alkoxy-2-amino-4-nitrobenzenes are prepared by reduction of 1-alkoxy-2:4-dinitro-benzenes with sodium disulphide in aqueous solution instead of in the appropriate alcohols with a corresponding economy in the use of the latter.1 This can be accomplished without difficulty because the alkoxy group in the 1-alkoxy-2-amino-4-nitrobenzenes is so slightly reactive that it is not replaced by hydroxyl during the reduction.
