Abstract
The preparation of 4-bromobenzaldehyde was achieved by 4-bromotoluene and molecular bromine in CCl_4 in the presence of La(Ac)_3 and subsequent Sommelet reaction. According to the method, 130 g bromine and 100 mL CCl_4 were added dropwise to the mixture of 86 g 4-bromotoluene, 2.5 g La(Ac)_3 and 500 mL CCl_4 at reflux and light radiation for 5 h, and then they were treated with urotropine to obtain 71.4 g 4-bromobenzaldehyde with the yield rate of 76.1% and the purity of 99.3%.
