Abstract
A number of new derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in which iodine is ortho to fluorien have been prepared, namely: ethyl 3-iodo-4-fluorobenzoate, 3-iodo-4-fluorobenzoic acid, the sodium salt of 3-iodo-4-fluorobenzoic acid, the hydrochloride of the diethylaminoethyl 3-iodo-4-fluorobenzoate, the hydrochloride of the piperidinopropyl 3-iodo-fluorobenzoate, the hydrochloride of the di-n-butylaminopropyl 3-iodo-4-fluorobenzoate, and the hydrochloride of the 3-(4-morpholino)-propyl 3-iodo-4-fluorobenzoate. All of the compounds exhibit anesthetic, hypnotic, and analgesic effects. Preliminary tests indicate that the compounds are relatively nontoxic but when used in concentrations necessary to produce a desirable opaque, were found to be irritating to the gastric and intestinal tract.
