Abstract
Chemical preparation and crystal structure are given for a bis muth-sodium trimetaphosphate BiNa3(P309)z · 9H 2 0. This double cyclo phosphate is trigonal, RJc, with: a = b = 30.845(15), c = 13.085(3) A, z = 18, V = 10781(13) A 3 and Dx = 2.534 g cm- 3 . The crystal structure has been solved by Patterson methods and refined toR = 0.028 for 2191 hkl. It consists of P30 9 rings lying in (001) planes interconnected by Bi0 8 dodecahedra along the c axis and cross-linked by helicoidal chains ofNa0 6 and Na0 7 polyhedra. Water molecules take part into the coordination polyhedron of each associated cation. Their arrangement makes the structure quite unstable. A series of rare earth-sodium trimetaphosphates TNa 3 (P 3 0 9 )2, 9H 2 0 has been synthetized with T = Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er andY. X-ray analysis has shown these compounds to be isotypic with the title compound.
