Abstract
Considerable work has been conducted to find more effective chemicals for reducing dental caries in human beings. During study in our laboratories, it was found that a compound subsequently identified as sodium pentafluorostannite possessed anticariogenic properties superior to any previously recognized compound when provided during the period of tooth development. In human clinical evaluation, it was found to be about twice as effective as either sodium fluoride or stannous fluoride when used as a constituent of a vitamin preparation.' It is the purpose of this report to describe the method of preparation of sodium pentafluorostannite and describe some of the more important physical and chemical properties of this compound.
