Abstract
Abstract Treatment of chloramphenicol or its erythro isomer with N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)-acetamide gives, depending on the solvents used, the mono-, bis- and tris(trimethylsilyl) derivative. Silylation with a mixture of hexamethyldisilazane and trimethylchlorosilane in pyridine yields only the bis(trimethylsilyl)ether.
