Abstract
Primidone with its two active metabolites, phenobarbital and phenylethylmalonic acid (PEMA), is an anticonvulsant drug that is indicated for the treatment of partial epilepsy. In addition to treatment of seizures, it is also indicated as the first line therapy for the management of essential tremor. The mechanism by which primidone exerts its antitremor activity is not known; however, there is evidence that GABAergic system and the GABAA receptors play an important role in regulating motor activity.
