Abstract
Abstract A detailed process for the production of d -amino acids starting from the synthesis of 5-substituted hydantoin was established using whole cells of Agrobacterium radiobacter . About 94% substrate turnover was attained at 30 mg/ml substrate concentration. On isolation and concentration of the end product, 65% recovery was obtained. The product was found to be 99% pure by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and infrared (IR) analysis, and confirmed by optical rotation.
