Abstract
Diallyl isophthalate (DAIP) is a multi-functional reactive thermoset monomer, and it has many desired properties such as high heat resistance and good dielectric properties, which makes it widely used in aerospace field. However the cured DAIP is excessively brittle, so presently many researches about DAIP are focused in it′s toughening. Reactive monomers, reactive long alkyl chain resins and thermoplastics could be used to tough DAIP, but the former two often lead to a decrease in heat resistance and the latter often lead to an increase in viscosity. In the paper, vinyl ester (VE) was used as DAIP′s toughening agent. The VE was obtained through esterification of bisphenol a epoxy resin and methacrylic acid or acrylic acid, and it has better toughness than DAIP and good heat resistance. Thus when DAIP was modified with VE, the resin systems will have satisfying properties. The DAIP/VE new systems were characterized with many methods, and the results show that the modified resins have better mechanical properties, high heat-resistant properties and good dielectric properties. Besides these, it is also found that the type and the content of VE have much influence on the properties of the modified systems. ME modified resins have better properties than AE modified resins, and the increase of VE's content can improve resin′s toughness but at the same time it can low their heat resistance and dielectric properties.
