Abstract
Denopamine is a novel phenylethanolamine derivative (Fig. 1). It is a highly selective β 1-agonist and was derived from a study on structure-activity relationships of a β 2-agonist, trimetoquinol, and was designed as an orally active positive inotropic agent with minor side effects. We report here denopamine’s pharmacological properties and mechanism of action. Denopamine has been used clinically as a remedy for chronic heart failure in Japan since 1988.
