Abstract
Thallium-201 is an isotope which is produced by the reaction 203T1 (p, 3n) 201 Pb 201TI- It is prepared as thallous chloride and has a half-life of 73 h, emitting mercury X-rays with a 69–83 keV photopeak in 98% abundance (and gamma rays of 135 keV and 167 keV in very low abundance). Thus it is suitable for imaging with the standard scintillation camera using a low-energy, high-sensitivity parallel-hole collimator. The relatively long half-life renders it widely available and facilitates its use in unpredictable circumstances such as spontaneous angina.
