Abstract
1. The reaction between 2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane and hydrogen sulfide in the presence of acid catalysts (HCl, p-toluenesulfonic acid, ZnCl2) leads to the formation of trithioacetaldehyde. 2. A study of the reaction of 2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane with HCl gives reason to believe that in the first step of the thiolysis the HCl reacts with the cyclic acetal to form the unstableα-chloro ether.
