Abstract
Abstract N, N′-Ethylenebis(isonitrosoethylacetoacetateimino)M(II) compounds for M = Ni, Cu, Co, Mn, Zn and Cd are formed by the reaction of diethyl ethylenebis(β-aminocrotonate) with metal acetates in the presence of NaNO2 in acid medium. The ligand precursor, diethyl ethylenebis(β-aminocrotonate), rearranges to N,N′-ethylenebis-(isonitrosoethylacetoacetateimine) H2L, which further loses two protons in the presence of transition metal ions and forms metal complexes [ML]. The proposed structures of the Ni(II) and Cu(II) compounds are square-planar, the Co(II) and Mn(II) compounds are octahedral and the Zn(II) and Cd(II) compounds are tetrahedral. The compounds were characterised by IR, 1H NMR, UV-Visible spectroscopic studies, magnetic moments, conductance measurements and elemental analyses.
