Abstract
The reaction of 7-O-hydroxy-9a-methoxymitosane sodium salt with glycosyl halide derivatives gave the corresponding 7-O-glycosyl-9a-methoxymitosanes in reasonable yields. A major product, 7-O-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl)9a-methoxymitosane, was isolated from the reaction mixture of 7-O-hydroxy-9a-methoxymitosane sodium salt with 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-D-glucopyranosyl bromide, in addition to two minor by-products, bissacharide derivatives of mitomycin. The cytocidal, antibacterial, and antitumor activities of 7-O-glycosyl-9a-methoxymitosanes were also examined
