Abstract
The reaction between silver phosphate and a number of substituted phenoxyacetyl chlorides is described. In all cases liberation of carbon monoxide is observed. After reaction, it is possible in some cases to isolate a substance with the formula R-O-CH2-O-CO-CH2-O-R (where R represents a substituted phenyl group). The remaining compounds form resins of the phenol-formaldehyde type but under certain circumstances it is possible to identify an o-hydroxybenzyl alcohol. A possible mechanism for the reaction is discussed.
