Abstract
Abstract2-Bromoethanol was reduced to ethylene, 1-bromo-2-propanol to propylene, and 2-bromo-l-indanol to indene on Pb or Cu electrodes with R4N+ electrolytes, in DMF with and without addition of water. Material and current efficiencies were high. Hydrogen was the only by-product in all cases. It is suggested that this represents a general method for the conversion of bromohydrins to olefins.
