Abstract
Abstract Perfluoro-(isopropyl)- s -triazines 3 – 5 have been synthesised by two methods, both involving fluoride ion induced reaction with hexafluoropropene. In reactions initiated by potassium fluoride, extraction of the perfluoroalkylated products from the polar aprotic solvent can be achieved using a perfluorocarbon fluid offering an improved isolation procedure. Perfluoroalkylation initiated by triethylamine in the absence of solvent provides alternative methodology. Both methods are much improved processes for scale-up. Perfluoro-(isopropyl)- s -triazines 3 and 4 react with a range of oxygen nucleophiles and application of this chemistry to the surface treatment of cellulose is described.
