Abstract
Both pentafluorobromobenzene and pentafluoroiodobenzene are reactive intermediates and can be used to introduce the perfluorophenyl (C6F5—) group into a variety of new compounds. The chief methods used are the Grignard coupling or addition reaction as well as the Ullmann condensation reaction. Some of the new compounds prepared were pentafluorobenzonitrile, perfluorodiphenyl, pentafluorophenyl-α-ethanol, and pentafluorostyrene.
