Abstract
2-Phenylazocrotonic acid ethyl and methyl ester were investigated as examples of compounds containing a conjugated system consisting of an NN double bond conjugated with a C-C double bond. It was found that ozone combines by addition to the CC double bond, hydrogen and hydrochloric acid in the 1:4 position, the last substance splitting off alcohol at the same time and forming 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-chloropyrazolone-5, while the action of phenyl magnesium bromide was exactly comparable with the action of the same substance on azobenzene.
