Abstract
Abstract The electrochemical reduction of ethyl-2-picolinate (I) in a sulfuric acid medium was studied on a lead cathode during batch electrolyses. Gas and liquid chromatographic mmeasurements were used respectively to identify and assay the products obtained. The selectivity of the electrochemical conversion of (I) to the corresponding pyridine-2-aldehyde, 2-hydroxymethylpyridine and picoline was investigated. The influence of parameters such as current density, initial ester concentration and sulfuric acid concentration, on the product distribution is discussed.
