Abstract
Abstract The electrochemical reduction of 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)-6-chloropyrimidine was studied on several cathode materials (mercury, amalgam, lead-paraffin, carbon-paraffin), in acidic solutions, at various temperatures, using the following experimental techniques: dc polarography and the potentiostatic method, as well as voltammetry, the galvanostatic method with stationary and rotating disc electrodes and preparative electrochemical reduction. On the basis of our own experimental results as well as literature data for some pyrimidine derivatives, a probable mechanism of the process is proposed with the possibility of quantitative evaluation of two reaction pathways occurring simultaneously, depending on the temperature and the electrode material.
