Abstract
1,3,2-Benzodiazaboroles are compounds at the interface between inorganic and organic chemistry. Numerous representatives of this family of heterocycles have been synthesized, where the boron atom is linked to various π-conjugated scaffolds. Herein the 10-π-electron containing benzodiazaborole unit acts as a π-electron-donor. Conjugation of the vacant 2pz-orbital at the boron center with the π-orbitals of the attached organic π-systems is responsible for unique absorption and emission characteristics such as large Stokes shifts and high quantum yields. A series of benzodiazaborolyl complexes of iridium have been employed as emitter materials in organic light emitting devices. Benzodiazaboroles are building blocks in sensors for fluoride- and cyanide-ions.
