Abstract
The pure optically active 1-fluoro-, chloro-, bromo-, and iodo-derivatives of 2-methylbutane have been prepared and values of their optical rotation, specific gravity, refractive index, and boiling point at various pressures, determined. A classification of their active forms is made, and on this basis the numerical relation of the differences of molecular rotations of these compounds (CI-F), (Br-CI), and (I-Br) is 41:18.1 :21.6, which is in substantial agreement with the numerical relation for the differences of the respective atomic radii of the neutral halogen atoms (41:16:21).
