Abstract
Abstract Because of the diverse colours of its derivatives in Wood's light, salicyloylhydrazide has been used for the differentiation and microanalysis of simple aldehydes and ketones and for the separation of oxosteroids into at least six groups, cortisone and prednisol falling in different groups. Quantitative estimation of — and 17-oxosteroids is possible by a one-stage fluorimetric procedure, and total steroids can be estimated absorptiometrically after conversion of their salicyloylhydrazones to indoaniline dyestuffs. The clinical applications of these methods are discussed.
