Abstract
It is interesting to note that even 96 h after application fenticonazole is present in the skin in sufficient concentrations capable of counteracting the development of mycosis. A reasonable justification of this , ,long-acting” effect could be that fenticonazole does not reach the deep cutaneous layers, and in the horny layer, which is the real seat of mycotic infection, achieves higher concentrations than MICs found in vitro for the majority of pathogenic organisms and for an extended period of time. These findings agree with drug pharmacokinetic: fenticonazole applied on the skin has a very limited absorption (51 Yo) and generated low plasma levels. Long-term intracutaneous activity and powerful fungicidal activity of fenticonazole suggest that a single daily administration could be adequate for the treatment of human dermatophytosis. This has to be tested clinically. References
