Abstract
Abstract The selective homogeneous hydrogenation and hydroformylation of 9-decen-1-ol and 10-undecen-1-ol has been examined using different catalysts. No preferential reaction was observed in homogeneous reaction systems consisting of organic solvent. Selective reactions were demonstrated when the substrates were interpolated into bilayers of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine in the presence of water soluble, but not lipid soluble, homogeneous catalysts. It is suggested that the phospholipid bilayer provides a highly specific matrix for the orientation of organic substrates and water-soluble homogeneous catalysts.
