Abstract
Abstract The oxidation of N -[1-Methyl-2:3-dihydroxy-cyclopenten(2)-ylidene(4)] piperidinium betaine(I) was investigated using electrochemical methods. The betaine was observed to be oxidised in an irreversible two-electron process to give fragmentation products. The major product resulted from the attack of piperidine on the enamine intermediate which is obtained through the two-electron oxidation of (I).
