Abstract
Abstract Infrared and Raman spectra were obtained for 4-methyl-2-pentyne and 4-methyl-2-hexyne. Observed vibrational frequencies assignments are related to specific frequencies from normal coordinate calculations, and the refined force constants are reported. 4-Methyl-2-hexyne was shown to exist as a mixture of three conformers, with the low-energy form being the one with the methyl groups trans to each other. Molecular mechanics calculations were also made for both compounds.
