Abstract
Hydrazine and 4-chlorophenol are two major water pollutants, and determination of them is very important for human health. A new hydroquinone derivative, i.e. 2-chloro-N′-[1-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl) methylidene]aniline (2-CDMA), was used in the carbon paste matrix as an electro-catalyst mediator for the measurement of hydrazine in the presence of 4-chlorophenol. The electrochemical signal of hydrazine and 4-chlorophenol increased with their concentrations, 0.08–400.0 and 20.0–800.0 µM, respectively, by the square wave voltammetric method. In addition, the presence-amplified sensor showed suitable values of sensitivity, i.e., 0.4849 and 0.2372 µAµM−1, and limits of detection of 0.03 and 5.0 µM for hydrazine and 4-chlorophenol analysis, respectively. The prepared sensor can resolve the overlapping oxidation signal for the electro-oxidation of the above compounds and help to simultaneously determine hydrazine and 4-chlorophenol in the solution.
