Abstract
Endrin replaced cryolite and ryania for control of 2nd- and 3rd-generation infestations of the sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis (F.), about 1958 primarily because of its efficacy. By 1963 control failures began to occur and resistance was subsequently verified (Yadav et al. 1965). Azinphosmethyl, an organophosphate, was substituted for endrin and has been used extensively for 8 years. The studies reported herein were undertaken to determine if any field populations of the sugarcane borer have developed resistance to azinphosmethyl.
