Abstract
Abstract The sterically demanding arylindium dichloride bis[(2,6-dimesitylphenyl)indium dichloride] [(Mes2C6H3)InCl2]2 (Mes = 2,4,6Me3C6H2) prepared by reaction of (2,6-dimesitylphenyl)lithium (Me2C6H3Li) with indium chloride and characterized by 1H NMR, elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2,/n (No. 14) with unit-cell parameters a = 11.094 (4) A, b = 16.902 (4) A, c = 13.762 (3) A, β = 96.69 (2)°, V = 2563 A3 for Z = 2 and Dcalc = 1.40 g cm−3. Refinement based upon 1980 observed reflections converged at R = 0.039 and Rw = 0.046. The title compound, residing about a center of symmetry, contains a planar and slightly asymmetric In2Cl2 four-membered ring with an InCl bond distances of 2.519 (2) and 2.514 A. The terminal InCl bond distance is shown to be 2.334 (3) A while the In-C bond distance is 2.138 (8) A. The independent InC bond distance is determined to be 2.138 (8) A. The title compound represents only the second example of a dimeric organoindium halide.
