Abstract
Abstract The molecular structure of 1,2-diphenylethane has been studied in the vapor phase at 373 K. The molecules exist predominantly as the antiperiplanar [τCphC1C2Cph=165(9)°] form. The major geometrical parameters obtained from least-squares analysis are (rg and ∠α): r〈C–H〉av=1.085(7) A, r(C1–C2)=1.55(3) A, r(C1–Cph)=1.519(9) A, r〈C–C〉ph=1.401(2) A, ∠C1–C2–Cph=114.7(18)° and τCsp3Csp3CipsoCortho=67(6)°.
