Abstract
The crystal structure of 4-acetyl-2'-chlorobiphenyl (C14HllOC1) has been determined from threedimensional X-ray diffraction data by a Patterson searching method. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2~/c, with unit-cell dimensions a= 4.00, b = 38.51, c= 7.52/~, ~= 100"07 o. The structure was refined with use of anisotropic thermal parameters to a residual of 11% for the 883 observed structure factors. The angle between the two phenyl rings was found to be 49"2 °. All the intermolecular contacts correspond to normal van der Waals interactions.
