Abstract
Abstract The X-ray crystal structure analysis of (2-chlorophosphinine)pentacarbonyltungsten shows that the 2-chloro-substituent enhances the electronic cyclic delocalization within the ring by comparison with the parent phosphinine and its pentacarbonylmolybdenum complex. No nucleophilic substitution of this chloro-substituent is observed upon reaction with a variety of nucleophiles: BuNH−, i-Pr2N−, HO−, MeO−, Me−, Bu−. In each case, a (2-chloro-1,6-dihydrophosphinine)pentacarbonyltungsten complex is obtained instead via initial attack at phosphorus. The subsequent reactions of BuNH−, MeI and HCl with (2-chloro-4,5-dimethylphosphinine)pentacarbonyltungsten leads to (2-chloro-4,5,6-trimethylphosphinine)pentacarbonyltungsten.
