Abstract
The structure of decahydroquinoline hydrobromide has been determined by the heavy-atom technique. This compound, C9H18NBr, crystallizes in the orthorhombic space groupPbcn (N ° 60), witha = 26.885(3),b = 9.952(1),c = 7.750(1) Å, andZ = 8. The structure was refined by block-diagonal least-squares methods to a finalR value of 0.086, including the hydrogen atoms located theoretically. Decahydroquinoline has a chair conformation. The molecules are held together by a network of hydrogen bonds of type N+−H...Br− along thec axis, and by van der Waals forces in the other directions. A comparative study with the structure of piperidine hydrobromide is given.
