Abstract
Abstract Aniline and several dimethyl derivatives have been polymerized by chemical and electrochemical methods. The resulting films and powders have been studied by X-ray photoelectron and infrared spectroscopies. Polydimethylanilines present a well-defined structure, where monomer units are mainly linked through the nitrogen and para positions. Acid-base treatments, modifying the protonation level, strongly influence the polymer electronic structure. Electrochemical properties are studied by u.v.-visible spectroscopy. Finally, preliminary results on electrical conductivity are discussed.
