Abstract
On standing, an acid solution of tungstate yields single crystals of the paratungstate salt Na10[H2W12O42]·26H2O. The space group is P¯1, (No. 2),a=11.811(2),b=12.486(2),c=12.206(2) Å,α=82.29(1),β=115.12(1), γ=113.76(1)°,V=1485.6 Å3,Z=1. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined toR=0.0397,Rw=0.0403 [w=(σ2F)−1]. The 12 WO6 octahedra (shared edges and vertices) are distorted from regular geometry; one of the sodium ions exhibits disorder and there is extensive hydrogen bonding between the water molecules and the oxygens of the paratungstate anion.
