Abstract
Abstract The structure of the molecular complex of 4-acetylpyridine with pentachlorophenol has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P 2 1 / n with a = 14.084(3), b = 5.344(1), c = 20.658(7) A, β=97.55 (2)° and Z =4. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined to R =0.040 for 2106 non-zero independent reflections. The OH⋯N hydrogen bond is of length 2.653(4)A and bond angle 156(4)°. The plane of the pyridine ring is slightly twisted from the plane of the phenol ring by an angle 4.12(5)°. The molecular character of the hydrogen bond has been confirmed by the IR spectrum.
