Abstract
Abstract Molecular dimensions suggest that three crystal forms of the nitric acid adduct of triphenylarsine oxide have the bridging proton more closely associated with the As=O group than with the nitrate moiety, whereas the corresponding phosphorus compound has the proton more closely associated with the nitrate moiety. In all cases, strong hydrogen bonds are formed between the two moieties resulting in XO bonds (where X=As or P) intermediate in character between single and double bonds.
