Abstract
A series of oximes were studied in relation to Sarin poisoning. Several of these compounds have therapeutic activity in protecting poisoned animals from death. The most effective compound, 2-oximino-3-butanone (DAM), protects mice against 3 LD50’s of Sarin and rats against 20 LD50’s. The metabolic fate of the oximes is unknown but the liver is the primary site of destruction for DAM. This oxime distributes rapidly throughout the body and renal excretion is small. Acute toxicity appears to be the result of CNS depression. No consistent pathologic changes have been noted yet.
