Abstract
The reaction between arenesulfonylacetic acids 1, arylglyoxals 2 and isocyanides 3 affords N-substituted 3-aryl-2-arylsulfonylacetoxy-3-oxopropionamides 4, which are cyclized to N-substituted 3-aryl-4-arylsulfonyl-2,5-dihydro-5-oxofuran-2-carboxamides 6. Treatment of compounds 6 with diazomethane affords N-substituted 3-aryl-4-arylsulfonyl-5-methoxyfuran-2-carboxamides 7, a novel class of furan derivatives.
