Abstract
To determine if ergocornine acts directly on certain suspected sites of action to prevent decidualization and termination of pregnancy the drug was applied topically to the ovary uterus and hypophyseal region of rats; 4 different vehicles were tried. Topical administration failed to evoke the responses usual to systemic administration. It is concluded that the drug must act via a degradation product or metabolic transformation possibly occurring in the liver.
