Abstract
Abstract The thermal behaviour of hexachloroplatinates(IV) of monoprotonated xanthine, theo- bromine, theophylline, 1,3,8-trimethylxanthine, caffeine and 8-ethyl-theophylline has been studied by IR, TG and DSC techniques. The data obtained are in accordance with the non-equivalence of the chlorine atoms coordinated to the Pt(IV) ion and also show that dehalogenation processes take place with the loss of Cl and HCl. The pyrolysis of these compounds ends between 420 and 520°C with metallic platinum remaining as final residue.
