Abstract
The reaction of [(2-furyl)methoxymethylene]pentacarbonylchromium with acetylenes produces two products in which a new aromatic nucleus is constructed: a furan and a phenol. The mechanism for the formation of these two products is studied for the reaction of methyl 4-pentynoate and with other acetylenes: Furan and phenol products have been previously observed for the reaction of carbene complexes with acetylenes, but the mechanism for phenol formation is far from understood and the mechanism for furan formation has not been previously studied
